Do you know what it’s like Growing Up Bush?

Since 1924, we’ve been assisting country kids to reach their full potential, so we know a little bit about what it’s like growing up in the bush. We're challenging you Australia, how well do you understand what it’s like to be a young one growing up in place many people haven’t heard of?

Australia may be a vast country, but 71% of us are living in major cities, and there is often a fairly large disconnect and lack of understanding for those who live in rural and remote areas. This is especially true for children growing up in the bush. In Australia today, there are more than 100,000 children in rural and remote areas with health and developmental needs that are not being met because of where they live.

Take the quiz today, and learn a bit more about the bush

As an added incentive, if you are able to answer all the questions correctly, you’ll go into the running to win a $500 shopping voucher. So what are you waiting for, take a few minutes out of your day to gain some insight into a childhood in rural Australia.

Every day, Australian country kids go without access to the developmental care they need, simply because of where they live. Country kids are 5 times as likely to have developmental challenges such as speech and language delays, behavioural and learning difficulties and mental illness compared to city kids. Providing comprehensive, specialist services for such complex issues is expensive. But, the cost of developmental healthcare is an investment – a necessary one for our country kids; their health, education, livelihood, community, and most importantly, their future.

Thank you for taking the time to complete our quiz.

We hope now you have a better understanding of just what life is like for children growing up in rural and remote areas, the barriers they face and the disadvantages they experience compared to those living in major cities.

For almost 100 years Royal Far West has worked hard to help improve the educational and health outcomes for country children so that they can have a brighter future. This isn’t easy, nor is it cheap, to achieve the best possible outcomes for kids across rural and remote Australia, the care we provide needs to be effective, timely, consistent and, above all, available to families in need, wherever they are.

But we wouldn’t do what we do if we weren’t completely dedicated and passionate about improving the lives of country children, families and communities.

So thank you again for helping to raise awareness for our cause, and if you can, please consider donating. Even the smallest bit counts and helps remind families across Australia that being far from help doesn’t have to mean being far from hope.
